Science Park application meeting to be held at Wanborough Village Hall

With a deadline to submit objections by 31st January, The South Swindon Protection Group are organising a meeting to disucss the Science Park application and how residents can voice their views.

You are inviterd to join residents at Wanborough Village Hall Thursday 10th January 2018 8.30pm.

With an overwhelming 184 documents in the application, the South Swindon Protection Group team will offer an overview of the application submitted by Wasdell Properties for their planning application for a Warehousing and Distribution facility (not a Science Park) at Inlands Farm off Pack Hill and The Marsh, Wanborough and how you can make your opinion and voice heard.

Their hybrid proposal includes:

  • Full planning application for a huge 33,000 sq.m. B&Q / Symmetry Park style 14.5 m. (47.5 ft.)’ high Industrial Warehousing and distribution facility that would  run parallel to The Marsh and close alongside much of Pack Hill
  • The application details loading bays for articulated lorries with a managed gated entrance onto Pack Hill.
  • As well as the several hundred articulated vehicle movements each day the 24x7 facility would require 600 employees to commute to and from Wanborough.
  • The application includes outline planning for further warehousing and distribution facilities
  •  This second phase is not expected to be started until after the main warehouse and distribution  facility is operational and would be subject to full planning approval. Nonetheless, it would assuredly include a substantial number of large industrial/commercial buildings and infrastructure, effectively covering the entire Inlands Farm site
  • This application is sited between Wanborough and the  adjoining North Wessex Downs Area of Natural Beauty (AONB).  The site also sits within an area of Non-Coalescence (NC3), with designated protection within Swindon’s Local Plan 2016.  The proposed site of 40 hectares; between the AONB (Pack Hill) and The Marsh (just off Commonhead roundabout) is as large as the village of Wanborough.

With planning fees, archaeological digs and consultant fees will have cost Wasdell close to £1m. The team will explain why we should  not assume this application will be rejected, complacency and lack of action could result in this becoming a reality.

The meeting will further explain how you can ACT NOW and  register your opposition to the application.  We have only until 31st January 2019  -the ‘closing date’ for objections, so we must all respond as soon as possibleOnline - and enter application S/OUT/18/1943 or location “SN4 0AS”. You will need to register to comment.
